3D SculpturesqueCan't think of a better title for this, yet, but this is basically situations where media is used that makes the piece quite a bit more than 2D. It makes it hard to scan, really, is the key point!

Cut-OutsThis technique was developed by my friend, Travis Armbrust. It is similar to the child craft of creating paper snowflakes or chains of people by cutting folded pieces of paper. He took it another step by overlaying multiple pieces and mounting them to create more complex compositions. These are my attempts at his concept.
Media Used:
Various types of paper, cut into designs and mounted

Light BoxThese pieces begin as black and white prints of real-life images or stills from movies. Tracings of the images are created using a light box with the different values of gray being assigned values from 1-5. It essentially becomes a color-by-number picture at that point.

Mandalas/KaleidoscopesThis technique manipulates original artwork in Photoshop. The parent images are chopped-up and mirrored to create repeating and revolving patterns with the absolute precision that computers allow. The kaleidoscopes are mostly simple, 4-way compositions, while the mandalas may contain numerous chops, flips and mirroring steps.

Selection StudyThis technique begins with random lines. The random lines form a chaotic mass of scribbling. Some of the areas created by the intersecting lines are filled-in with color. Form and order are created from the initial random chaos. I consider this my signature technique.

TryingMy art is primarily abstract because I don't have the ability to do realistic things. However, a listing of this "technique" means that I was actually trying to create a realistic representation of something.
